Tip #1: Most ovens temperature fluctuates 10-20 degrees. That's a lot when you're making a delicate pastry! Don't count on the dial to be accurate -- use a reliable oven thermometer, inside the oven.
Tip #2: Invest in good ingredients! We know that with the price of gas going up and groceries getting more expensive, its tempting to buy knock off brands or the cheaper (can we say it?) margarine instead of butter.... but starting with the best, helps your treat to turn out its best! If you're going to "splurge" on the sweets - make it worthwhile! Buy the best nuts, toppings, fillings, and real butter. There's no substitute!
